Conflict Resolution Procedure - Scholars

1. Our Commitment

All scholars have the right to be treated with respect and the right to be and feel safe from harm.

When conflict occurs, it is often the case that opinions vary, emotions are strong and the stakes are high. It is our commitment to support each scholar to learn from such experiences and to proactively resolve conflict by listening, demonstrating empathy and communicating in an open and genuine manner.

While conflict can be uncomfortable in the short term, dealing with an issue between a Scholar and their Host, a Scholar and their Sponsor or between each other, can sometimes help to strengthen and solidify the relationship and learning if the issue is able to be rectified in a positive manner.

2. Our Approach

If an issue or conflict arises it is preferable that any discussion of problems be done verbally rather than in written or message form.

Any problems or concerns should be discussed with a Global Footprints team member in the first instance as soon as the issue arises.

It is understood that addressing any concerns as soon as they arise is most likely to reach a positive outcome for all parties.

If the situation remains unresolved, it must be escalated to the CEO.

Where appropriate, mediation may also be considered.

A breach of trust may result in the withdrawal of the person from the program or any other action deemed appropriate.

For Scholars:

If a Scholar has a concern with their host, colleagues, peers, accommodation or any aspect of their travel experience, they are able to discuss this with any member of the Global Footprints team, with their Support Person, or during their Wellbeing Check-ins. They should do this immediately they feel concerned.

Scholars are also able to lodge a concern through EAP Assist at https://eapassist.com.au/whistleblowerprogram/ EAP Assist receive and assess the report, then take the necessary steps to work with the Global Footprints team to address the issue raised.

For Sponsors:

If a Sponsor has a concern they should contact the Global Footprints team directly.

For Host Organisations:

If the Host has a concern they should contact the Global Footprints team directly.

After following an agreed process to resolve an issue and with support from the Global Footprints team, the Host and/or the Scholar are free to terminate a Placement at any time if they feel it is not working and the achievement of the desired outcomes is therefore not occurring. The placement may be terminated at any time by either the Host or the Scholar by providing 2 days’ notice of termination. This is outlined in both the host and scholar placement agreement.
