Keirah Metcalfe received a Global Footprints Scholarship for sustainability in horticulture thanks to
the generous sponsorship of BioGuano, Australian made and owned organic fertiliser.
Her scholarship gave Keirah the opportunity to step beyond her small hometown, Ballarat, and
explore the world of horticulture in the UK, learning about propagation, ecology and new techniques
for sustainability in her industry.
For Keirah, knowing how to use plants for everyday life is one of the best ways to create a
sustainable future, and getting that knowledge from people who have used those techniques for
centuries is one of the best ways to learn.
One of her many placements was the Eden Project in Cornwall, where Keirah learned about
propagation, biological pest control, including the use of beneficial insects, and the use of organic
fertilisers.

Having this opportunity has encouraged Keirah to pursue further career adventures and is currently studying a Diploma of Sustainable living at The University of Tasmania.
Hopefully this wil lead into a further knowledge of ecology, botany and engaging in making a larger impact on a sustainable future.
