Amy Drought
2025 | Horticulture
Scholarship supported by the James N. Kirby Foundation
“Horticulture and permaculture are my deepest passions and have taken over my life like a Lantana; the more I learn, the more excited I am about future opportunities and knowledge I’ll gain.”
I hope to travel to learn more about the European culture around permaculture, sustainability, gardening and horticulture.
I love the ability of gardens to connect communities, and look forward to engaging with a range of gardens and their maintenance and design crew, to discover their differing practices, culture and knowledge.
I look forward to exploring the beautiful gardens of Europe, immersing myself in the science at Kew Gardens, and learning about therapeutic horticulture in Norway and Sweden.
Amy’s scholarship relates to UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs): 3 & 11.
“Amy stood out with a very thoroughly researched application with lots of detail on her current and future goals and aspirations in the horticulture industry. […] She also demonstrated a strong understanding of sustainability in her field of work, and in her own lifestyle. […] I enjoyed reading her ideas and was impressed with her commitment to striving for personally and professionally excellence.”
