2026 | Horticulture
“Sustainability is extremely important to me. I ensure that both the land I inhabit and the tools I use every day are reused or repurposed in a way that avoids waste.”
Growing up on rural properties, I always have been passionate about nature and taking care of the planet. Always outdoors, I learnt to cultivate plants, weed gardens, and grow fresh fruit and vegetables. This love of horticulture from a young age led me to beginning my journey as a trainee at Mid Coast Council back in January 2025.
Today, working for the council, I do many different types of pruning, replanting, mulching and general maintenance for the gardens in the local districts.
Sustainability is extremely important to me. I ensure that both the land I inhabit and the tools I use every day are reused or repurposed in a way that avoids waste. I love to learn about all different plants and how they can be used for multiple purposes.
I hope to gain skills and experience from this scholarship to one day work as an Environmental Horticulturist to make a difference, not just for the everyday people but for the planet we all love and inhabit. I am travelling to the United Kingdom to learn from experienced enthusiastic horticulturists.
“Robert presents well in his video application and is confident and articulate. He is a natural spokesperson and collaborator.”
