“Sustainability is not just something I care about, it is something I want to build my career around.”
From a young age I have had a passion for agriculture, working on and loving my family’s farm. My love for agriculture was ignited at Urrbrae, where I learned about sustainability and how agriculture can support global food security while caring for the land. My curiosity led me to research fertiliser production, urea application, no-till farming and cover crops.
For me, sustainability is not just a concept; it is something I actively pursue in the classroom, the lab and the field. I applied for this scholarship to learn how farmers overseas support sustainability and care for their land. I want to bring ideas from around the world back to our family farm and my future career.
Canada has been my first instinct because of its cropping programs, similar machinery and crop varieties used in different climates. I would love to see crop trials and plant breeding translated into farm practice. Europe also pulls at me because of sustainability laws and varied approaches. Wherever I go, my goal is to observe, ask questions and bring home ideas that make a difference.
“Cooper’s application showed curiosity and passion, motivation to improve the industry and a great area of interest to explore.”
