“I hope to continue developing my knowledge of sustainable agriculture and livestock production and use the skills I gain to contribute positively to the Australian agricultural industry.”
Growing up on a mixed-farming property in Northern NSW has given me a strong appreciation for agriculture. Sustainability is essential to ensuring future generations can continue to produce food, care for the land and support rural communities. Healthy pastures, efficient feed and water use, rotational grazing and responsible animal care all contribute to more sustainable farming operations.
This scholarship is giving me the opportunity to expand my knowledge beyond Australian farming systems. I am particularly interested in cattle production, including breeding, nutrition, pasture management, animal health, genetics, welfare standards and sustainable farming systems. I would also value seeing the beef supply chain from production through to processing, distribution and consumers.
I hope to travel to Brazil and Canada because both are recognised for successful beef industries. In Brazil, I would be interested in largescale cattle operations, grazing systems and sustainability initiatives. In Canada, I would like to learn about livestock management in harsh winters, feedlots, technology, animal health and welfare, and bring that broader understanding back to Australian agriculture.
“Ellie is a very strong applicant with a clear future impact. International exposure will strengthen her own development as well as the Australian agricultural sector.”
