2026 | Horticulture

“My career aspiration is to help address global challenges such as soil erosion, loss of urban green spaces, pollution, and climate change through plant-based solutions.”

I want to deepen my understanding of the natural world, particularly plant communication, tree networks, fungal relationships, soil health and sustainable production horticulture. I hope this scholarship will help me reach my goal of developing an internationally informed career in environmental and horticultural science.

Some goals of mine include contributing to global native revegetation, rubbish clean-up projects and following plant driven global strategies like, biodiversity programs, the green roofs/walls movement, tree regeneration, edible community gardens, seed bank preservation, invasive plant control, medicinal plant/herb conservation and protecting our carbon storage.

I would choose to travel to British Columbia, Canada, to learn from Dr Suzanne Simard’s Mother Tree Project. Its research into how trees communicate and support each other through underground fungal networks aligns closely with my interests in plant communication and ecosystem health. I would also explore Canadian horticulture and learn about horticultural therapy.
