“My goal is to influence how Australia views and implements sustainability.”

I am passionate about discovering environmentally friendly strategies and using them in everyday life.

Native plants use less water and fertiliser and provide habitat for native fauna. In the green space I help maintain, we remove weeds by hand where possible, minimise chemical use and return pruned branches and leaf litter to the soil as mulch. Volunteering at the Cool Garden at the Sydney Royal Easter Show let me educate visitors about plant selection to cool homes and reduce reliance on electrical systems.

I intend to use this scholarship to immerse myself in broader cultures and sustainability practices. I hope to expand my knowledge of ethical horticulture, use what I learn in my work and educate others. My ultimate goal is to influence how Australia views sustainability.

I hope to travel to the Netherlands to explore greenhouse technology, plant breeding, propagation and pest management. I would also visit Mauritius to learn from programs propagating native and endemic plants for restoration. I am eager to understand how these approaches could influence production and conservation in Australia.
