“I want to help make our planet whole again. I want to help preserve the species that we’ve endangered before they’re lost forever.”
I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and love learning more about the things I am passionate about. I am a trainee at Bonny Hills Garden Centre, where I manage plant health and give customers advice. Last year I managed the roses through a major aphid outbreak while considering the wellbeing of the bees visiting the flowers. I was proud to hear they were the healthiest roses the business had had in years.
My ultimate goal is to work in orchid conservation. This scholarship allows me to travel to Singapore to learn about orchid care, sustainably emulating natural habitats, the threats orchids face in the wild, and conserving endangered species through symbiotic germination.
I would like to learn from Singapore Botanic Gardens and the National Orchid Garden about pollination, seed collection, seed banking, cultivation and sustainability, so I can use that knowledge in the conservation programs I hope to join in my future career.
“Jacqueline shows long-term career aspirations and significant potential to generate lasting benefits for Australian horticulture.”
