“It is important to me to ensure the progress of sustainability in Agriculture, to make sure we can still feed and clothe the growing population.”
My passion for agriculture began with my highschool’s on-site farm, where paddocks had to be managed to reduce the impact of sheep grazing them. I am now studying at Tocal and am proud of my experience across sheep, cattle and cropping systems. Volunteering at the Bee Centre has grown my understanding of bees and how to ensure their survival. I have also learned about crop and paddock rotation, soil biodiversity and pest management systems that reduce reliance on chemicals and protect ecological systems.
I would love for this scholarship to continue my passion for agriculture, build my experience and improve my footprint within the sector. I wish to see sustainable farming systems, and I am very interested in precision agriculture and technologies that improve sustainability. Networking is important to me, and I would love to hear others’ experiences.
I would be excited to travel to Germany and the Netherlands because of their emerging technology. I would like to see agricultural drones, soil mapping, water management, flame weeding, floating dairy farming and solar-powered precision seeding and weed-control robotics, and consider how these practices could benefit Australian farming.
“Timothy has demonstrated a curiosity for exploring the world the of agriculture and the issues this sector is facing.”
