2025 | Agriculture

In Honour of Tom Gunning

“I am eager to learn and help the industry to move sustainably forward and create a long lasting productive and profitable future for my generation and beyond.”

Farming and the agricultural industry is my future, it is what I love doing and the options are endless. I am eager to learn and help the industry to move forward sustainably and create a long lasting productive and profitable future for my generation and beyond.

With this Scholarship, I hope to travel to Canada to learn from large-scale farms, see advanced machinery and technologies in action, and exchange ideas on sustainable practices.

I’m passionate about leading large crews during harvest, trialing regenerative practices, and using non-synthetic fertilisers and biological treatments to improve soil and crop quality.

Experiencing global approaches will help me bring back knowledge to enhance Australian agriculture for future generations.

Gilbert’s scholarship relates to UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs): 12 & 15.

“Gilbert shows a strong commitment to sustainable farming practices and hands-on learning. He demonstrates leadership in team settings, a passion for innovation, and a clear desire to share knowledge globally. His focus on soil health, sustainable crop production, and exposure to advanced farming techniques highlights his dedication to creating a better future for agriculture. Gilbert is motivated to grow his skills through international experience and apply new insights to benefit both his family farm and the wider industry.”
